I wish it was an hour longer, but if this means that ND is doing away with the spawning waves of enemies I'm all for it.

Savoring an Uncharted game over the course of a week is practically impossible anyways because they're paced so well. I usually finish in 1-2 sittings just because there aren't many places you feel like quitting.

Frame dropping on the PS3 version aside, they seem functionally/graphically identical.

Only big difference is in the lighting. PS3 has waaaay more bloom. Probably has a more advanced lighting system in place, but personally I think it's too much.

Agree with this list except for the big one they forgot.

Final Fantasy 14 Online

I remember watching the E3 announcement and watching the audience's head explode; and then a massive audible "uh" when online faded into the title. And this was followed by poor sales, negative reception, and so little impact it didn't even end up on this list.

It's a sequel so unwanted people pretend like it doesn't exist.

A little misleading but there is no such thing as true originality. Gears and Uncharted are franchises that synthesize different genres into something new.

For Gears it was combining the over-the-shoulder perspective from RE4 and the cover based system of kill.switch.

For Uncharted it is a blending of Gears style combat, puzzle solving, and platforming.

And I'm sure if we looked hard enough we could find some game that had done something...

Wow I would never have expected a response like this from someone who chose ps3 destroyer as their screen name. I'm shocked!, shocked I say!, that you would pick the 360 exclusive in this debate.

On a less sarcastic note, I really want to know, who is beloved in Gears? Nearly every person in Gears is a wisecracking foulmouthed roided up space marine hard ass. Who's this beloved one I'm supposed to be caring about? Alright nevermind that was sarcastic but I stil...

Well at least the author presents his argument in a non-flamebait way. And he tries to present some cogent arguments to explain his opinion.

That doesn't stop him from being insane, but it's his opinion.

Putting aside everything else and just looking at narrative, GeOW fails at so many levels. There is no theme, just an apocalypse set up meant to illicit our sympathies. None of the characters transcend their cliches. The tone shifts wildly between...

Needs more Kevin Butler, less annoying cutting between scenes.

It's a good commercial for us gamers, but we already know about Uncharted. If I were totally ignorant of the franchise, like most consumers are, I wouldn't know what this game is.

*sigh*

Maybe I'm just depressed that this series won't put up big numbers like the (insert: space marine/military shooter sequel) game will.

Only executives and fanboys care about sales. As long as there's enough people on the network to provide competition for a few major multiplayer games whether a console sells 10 million or a 100 million changes absolutely nothing about an individual's experience with a console.

The most important thing for an individual to consider is what console has more of the games they want to play, and possibly whatever their friends have. And that will vary by individual tast...

Haha. Where to begin.

First of all, an 85% average is not a bad metascore, it's actually quite good. Second of all, even with some meandering quality, Resistance is no where near overhyped.

Overhyped is Halo. Overhyped is Final Fantasy 13. Overhyped is Modern Warfare 3. No one is claiming Resistance 3 will be the second coming of Christ. Just that it will be a great game that comes from a studio with a solid pedigree.

A ha. And what GOTY winning games have Sledgehammer produced? Oh yeah, this is their first game. On a franchise they originally had nothing to do with. Working with a partner, Infinity Ward, that is a shell of it's former self.

Awfully ballsy these guys since THEY'VE never made a world class game.

By that logic then Avatar is better than The Godfather and the Transformers trilogy is better than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, because they sold more movie tickets.

Except no one really thinks that.

Ignoring the fact that all you've listed are major Xbox titles, calling into question your objectivity, your argument that being system sellers makes them better than other titles uses plainly faulty logic.

And system sellers can flame out ...

I think this whole fiasco with the PS3 version of Crysis 2 just proves that Crytek is good at creating new graphics high water marks on the software side, but lousy at optimizing them on the actual hardware side.

In theory, Crytek's games are all graphical powerhouses, but it hardly matters because because they can't get them to run on anything properly at max settings.

And then you throw them a wildcard like the PS3 architecture, something totally al...

You know I actually think this is funny.

Crytek is most well known for raping people's processors six ways from Sunday but they're defeated by the PS3's architecture?

Yeah we're not shocked when a double A developer can't keep platform parity, but graphics are really the only thing these guys do! They're the experts!

And what's more most of the issues raised in the article were solved years ago by Naughty Dog and S...

Eva is hot but her only decent film credit is Bad Lieutenant.

If our hope at this point is for this movie to be watchable instead of merely bad, then her being there helps.

If our hope is that this movie turns out to be good, which it won't, then her shallow acting will only pile on and make it worse.

Unless she's the hooker Nate and Sully were talking about in U2. Wait is Sully even in this movie? No? Then forget it, she's just ...

Damn

If this were any other game I would assume this trailer was pre-rendered CG, but with Uncharted it's not inconceivable
this was based on the game's own graphics engine.

Didn't show much gameplay but it was probably too much to hope
for since the game is only half finished. ND are perfectionists so it would be out of character for them to show something unpolished.

@HHG

You're a victim of placebo effect. You're dazzled by your shiny new HDTV and are likely just reacting to a higher quality set, not the increase in hertz.

As many others have said, you can't improve a game's framerate by increasing the quality of your TV. No video game runs at 240hz, heck most barely make 30.

Miyamoto?

I know I know, father of videogames creator of Mario and Zelda.

But look at it this way when it comes to features, rumble, motion control etc., he's very influential but as a game designer not much of his DNA exists in modern gaming.

The modern classics like BioShock, or ME 2, or Uncharted 2, don't have a lot in common with anything Miyamoto has done past or present. The the most popular genre sales wise, shooters, owes mor...

Whether they are good or shitty is a matter of personal opinion, but there's no denying that whenever an MGS comes out the nature and use of cutscenes and codecs and the effect of cinema on video games in general is
usually debated.

Of the main titles it's hard to peg which is "the shitty one." Most people say MGS2, but then when you look back on it MGS2 had the most complex and thought provoking ideas. It was just a tough game to digest.

Yeah I know, but it has to be said and it's most certainly his fault.

Schafer's writing is uniformly excellent but he's always struggled at merging good gameplay with his writing.

In a way he's like the opposite of Kojima, whose brilliance shines
through whenever he's orchestrating a mindblowing gameplay element,
but tends to fall short when he's putting together dialogue.

Ultimately though gameplay is...

Jaffe's name is attached to a lot of classic games. God of
War was certainly best when he was the one directing it.

If this new TM ends up not working out then I might say you're
barking up the right tree.
